Byng Public School District


 

Primary Goal: 

Byng Public School District partners with local tribes and the JOM Indian Education Parent Committee to provide supplemental programs designed to meet the specialized and unique educational needs of eligible Indian students.

 

Eligible Students:

An eligible student is any student, grade prekindergarten through grade 12, who is a member of or is at least one-fourth degree Indian blood descendent of a member of an Indian tribe which is eligible for the special programs and services provided by the United States through the Bureau of Indian Affairs to Indians because of their status as Indians.  Acceptable documentation includes one of the following:

  • CDIB – Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood – Must be the student’s card.
  • Tribal membership letter / tribal roll card

 

​​Local Program Objectives:

  • To promote the welfare of Indian children and youth in home, school, community and their tribe.
  • To raise the standards of school achievement of Indian children.
  • To secure adequate programs for the care and protection of Indian children and youth.
  • To bring into closer relationi the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently ini the education of Indian children and youth.
  • To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children andyouth the highest advantages in physical, mental, and social education.
